Exercise will help with excessive barking.

Many dogs bark because of a lack of exercise. Dogs do this because barking provides activity that they are lacking due to not enough exercise. Your pet needs at least one hour of activity a day. A dog that is not getting enough exercise may bark just for something to do.

If your not home enough to provide enough exercise consider hiring a dog walker or a doggie day care. Sometimes adopting a second dog will provide company and increase activity levels when your not around.

Keeping your dog's activity at an acceptable level will go a long way in controlling barking. Also a great toy to keep your dogs interest is some type of treat ball. When your dog plays with it a small treat is dispensed. Another great toy are toys that allow you to record a message on them, this way by playing with the toy your pet can hear your voice whenever they want.
